There are many health benefits associated with exposing the body repeatedly to hot and cold temperatures. These benefits include longer life expectancy, more efficient blood circulation, improved skin elasticity and stronger mitochondrial function just to name a few.

Amino acids combine to create many different types of proteins in the body. These proteins then communicate with one another to carry out all kinds of different processes in the body. Shock proteins are what
the body produces when exposed to an extreme temperature change. Although we carry some of these proteins in the body at all times, their prevalence is increased dramatically when the body is exposed to either a dramatic change in hot or cold temperatures. As you might have guessed, cold shock proteins are produced when you are exposed to extreme cold and heat shock proteins when you are exposed to extreme heat.
These proteins are produced in order to protect us!
The proteins rush together, sending signals throughout the body in order to help the body do what it needs to do to keep in balance under a stressful condition change. Intentionally activating these heat shock proteins and cold shock proteins within our bodies exercises our ability to handle stressful conditions within. It exercises our ability to handle stress on a physical level as well as mentally.
We can exercise these proteins with the use of ice baths for cold shock proteins and sauna sessions for our heat shock proteins. The more you make use of these modalities, the more you will notice you begin to adapt to daily stresses in a much more fluid motion.
